Eligibility and Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY -
Families of
dependent children, 20 years old and younger, whose home residence is
outside a 30 mile radius of Wichita, who are in any Wichita hospita or
are receiving outpatient treatment.
To stay at either Ronald McDonald House, a person must have attained 18 years of age, or if under 18 years of age must: a. Have been legally emancipated b.
Be accompanied by a person who has attained 18 years of age who is the
person's (a) spouse, (b) parent or natural guardian, or legal guardian,
or subject to the approval and discretion of Ronald McDonald House
Charities of Wichita, Inc., be
c. Accompanied by a person who
has attained 18 years of age who has been approved and designated by a
person described in paragraphs 2 (b) or 2 (c).
Home health
agencies, therapists, medical personnel administering IV antibiotics,
chemotherapy, other IV medications or non-emergency medical procedures
are not allowed. This policy does not interfere with House guests
self-administering oral or subcutaneous medications (such as insulin),
following proper training in another setting. Because there will
frequently be people staying at the House whose resistance to infection
is low, requirements for good hygiene nd infection control will be
strictly enforced. Persons with colds or who have been exposed to other
infectious diseases before or during their stay at the House will ot be
allowed to stay.
All patients receiving treatment, or patients
(including new mothers) recently dismissed from the hospital and
staying in the house must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Mothers of new babies must have someone with them until such time the
new mother and Manager agree the new mother can take responsibility for
herself.
The Wichita Ronald McDonald House Admissions criteria
and house rules are determined by the Ronald McDonald House Charities
of Wichita, Inc. Board of Directors. PLEASE do not ask the House
Managers to make any exceptions to any criteria as they are unable to
do so.

GUIDELINES
- The cost to stay at the Ronald McDonald House is $15 per night per family.
- Quiet hours are from 9:00 pm to 9:00 am.
- Any Ronald McDonald House agent has the right to enter your room at any time.
- Conduct; Disorderly conduct, profanity, public
intoxication, or domestic disturbances and / or abuse (including verbal
or physical) will not be tolerated and the guest family will be asked
to leave and not be readmitted.
- Check-out: Please let us know in advance when you may be
checking out by 2:00 pm if possible. If it is necessary for you
to check out prior to 9:00 am, please consult the Manager the day
before.
- Your bedroom and bathroom must be cleaned thoroughly before
checking out. Check-Out instructions are available in the office
at Manager's desk and on the back of the bedroom doors. The
Manager or volunteer will check your room before departure.
- Child Supervision: Baby sitting services are not
provided. Supervision of children under age 18 is the
parent/guardian's responsibility. Children must be supervised at
all times. Children must be in their own bedrooms by 10:00 pm.
- House Duty: Each family is expected to participate in the
daily upkeep of the House by doing one House duty each day by 11:00 am.
- Cleaning: As a House guest of Ronald McDonald House, it is
your responsibility to keep your bedroom, bathroom, and any other area
in the House that you occupy neat and clean. If you have a guest
with you, you are responsible for making sure they pick up after
themselves (or you pick up after them). Loading and
unloading the dishwasher is the responsibility of all families.
- Food must be prepared, eaten, or stored ONLY in the kitchen and dining areas.
- There is no food or beverages allowed in your bedroom except water.
- No medication or breast milk, (which is a bodily fluid), are
allowed in the House refrigerators or House freezers. See the
Manager for proper storage requirements.
- Room Occupancy: The registered family member must use the
room nightly. Each bedroom is limited to 4 people including
children /babies. All persons occupying the room must be
registered with the Manager.
- Ronald McDonald House is smoke free. Smoking and smokeless
(chewing/snuff) tobacco is prohibited in the House and property other
than the designated smoking area.
- Visitation Expectation: You and members of your family are
expected to spend a substantial amount of time with the patient in the
hospital on a daily basis.
- Visitors are welcome. However, the donated items such as
food, laundry, etc. are for family use only. All visitors are
welcome between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm only.
- Weapons, firearms, or illegal drugs are not allowed in the Houses
or on Ronald McDonald House Property. This activity will not be
tolerated and the guest family will be asked to leave and will not be
readmitted.
- No pets are allowed in the houses.
Violation of any rules
will not be tolerated and may result in the guest family being asked to
leave and not be readmitted. If you have any questions or
